A South African man in the United States (US) on a work visa has been arrested in the state of Oklahoma in connection with alleged child sexual abuse material. Authorities say the arrest of Vico Du Toit followed an online tip-off to law enforcement. He is accused of uploading the material through a messaging app and possessing it. The Grady County Sheriff’s Office says its investigation began after a tip from the National Centre for Missing and Exploited Children, a US organisation that receives reports of suspected online child exploitation. Investigators say they traced the material to a computer in the rural Dibble area, about 50km from Oklahoma City and identified Du Toit as the suspect. Deputies allege that Du Toit admitted uploading and posting the material through an account on the Kik messaging app. He was arrested on allegations involving possession of the material and violations of Oklahoma’s computer crimes law. Du Toit is scheduled for a preliminary hearing conference on November 4.
