Former Greater Accra Regional Minister Titus Glover has poured libation, calling on traditional deities to intervene in the demolition of structures at La Pleasure Beach, which has affected businesses and livelihoods. The act took place during the Ga-Dangme Progressive Front’s demonstration, dubbed “Aaagbe wɔ demo,” organised to protest the demolitions and draw attention to concerns over the impact on affected residents and businesses. The National Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) appeal to the gods added a traditional dimension to the protest, as demonstrators raised concerns about the destruction of structures and the disruption of livelihoods at the beach. The demonstration forms part of growing calls for attention to the concerns of communities affected by demolitions in parts of Greater Accra. The demonstration follows calls by the Coalition of La Associations (COLA) to the government and relevant authorities in seven days to respond to demands for compensation for businesses and traders affected by the demolition exercises at Laboma Beach Resort and La Pleasure Beach. The Coalition warned that failure to address the concerns could result in lawful protests, petitions to the Presidency and Parliament, and possible legal action. The Coalition recalled that on September 13, 2026, the government’s Post-Flood Mitigation Task Force demolished structures at Laboma Beach Resort as part of efforts to restore the Kpeshie Lagoon and reduce flooding. Another demolition exercise followed on October 2, 2026, at La Pleasure Beach and adjoining areas, affecting restaurants, bars and other commercial establishments. Citing figures from the Ghana Tourism Federation, COLA said 85 businesses were affected at La Pleasure Beach alone, putting approximately 4,000 jobs at risk, with women accounting for a significant proportion of the affected workers.
