Joburg Water dismisses entire system contamination claims as fake

Johannesburg Water has dismissed messages claiming that the City’s entire water supply is contaminated and unsafe to drink, calling them fake. The entity says there is no confirmed contamination incident affecting the whole city and urges residents not to forward unverified messages. Any water quality advisory applies only to specific areas identified in the notice, Johannesburg Water reiterates. Residents who notice an unusual colour or smell in their water are urged to report it to Johannesburg Water on 010 061 4470 so that investigations and testing can be conducted. Spokesperson Nombuso Shabalala says, “Johannesburg Water urges residents to be aware of fake messages claiming that all water supplied across the City of Johannesburg is contaminated and unsafe to drink. These fake messages do not come from Johannesburg Water nor the City of Johannesburg.
