A search is underway for a man who went missing after getting into difficulty while swimming at Salmon Bay beach in Ballito, north of Durban, this morning. The IPSS Seach and Rescue, the National Sea Rescue Institute NSRI and KwaDukuza Municipality lifeguards responded to the incident. IPSS Search and Rescue Spokesperson Samantha Mayrick has advised swimmers to refrain from swimming at the unguarded beach. “Despite an extensive search and jet skis and a drone, they have been unable to locate the drowning victim at this time. The search will continue. We would like to urge the public to avoid swimming at Salmon Bay Beach in Ballito. This is an unprotected beach and has claimed the lives of numerous swimmers. Please swim at protected beaches,” says Mayrick.
