Ghana Football Association (GFA) Communications Director Henry Asante Twum has cautioned that restoring the Black Stars to their former level will require time following the team’s disappointing run of results. The men’s senior national team has endured a difficult spell, recording just one victory in their last eight matches across all competitions. Their struggles have also affected their Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualification campaign, with Ghana losing their opening two Group C matches against Ivory Coast and The Gambia. The results have left Ghana at the bottom of Group C, while Ivory Coast and The Gambia occupy the top positions with six points each. “It wouldn’t take a day, wouldn’t take a week; it’ll take a lot more effort and a lot of time to get the team back on track,” Twum told JoySports. “Where we are at this moment, leadership is aware of the challenges that confront us, and efforts are being made to get the team back on track,” he added. “When you win, you’re hailed, but you don’t expect the people to hail you when the results are poor. That’s what leadership must know and accept.” Meanwhile, A five-member committee recommended Black Queens coach Kim Lars Björkegren for the Black Stars coaching job temporarily, with Ibrahim Tanko and Godwin Attram proposed as his assistants, following the departure of Carlos Queiroz. The Black Stars will turn their attention to a double-header against Somalia in November as they look to improve their performances and revive their qualification hopes.
