Acting Coordinator of the National Intelligence Coordinating Committee (NICOC) Dr Ntandazo Sifolo has agreed to some declassified documents being used at the Madlanga Commission, to question him and other witnesses in open hearings. The list of documents that are expected to be led in public, without being placed on display include an intelligence brief and a document titled “Questionable Credibility of IDAC”. There are other documents that Dr Sifolo has not released for the open hearings but can be used to question witnesses during in-camera hearings. This development comes after the Madlanga Commission directed its evidence leaders – last week – to approach Dr Sifolo and inquire whether any of the documents, he is set to testify on, are not capable of use in the Commission’s public hearings. This after media houses; Daily Maverick’s Scorpio, amaBhungane and News24 opposed a blanket in-camera hearing of Sifolo’s testimony which at the time relied on documents that had initially been declassified for the purposes of the commission not public consumption.
