Election results are beginning to trickle in from smaller voting stations in Limpopo’s farming communities. By 3am on Thursday, only 1% of the votes had been counted. A total of 110 voting stations were established in farming areas following complaints from farmworkers in previous elections that polling stations were located too far from their communities. Limpopo Electoral Operations Manager, Itumeleng Seanego says he is satisfied with the counting process thus far. “Indeed results are just trickling in because if you look at the rate of capturing those results currently we are sitting at one percent so that tells us that we still have a long way to go but one can indicate that indeed the capturing process is going well. We are going through all the verification processes and so far it is going well.” Western Cape Vote counting is also underway across the Western Cape’s municipalities, with results slowly beginning to trickle in. By 2am on Thursday, approximately 3% of the province’s 1 623 voting districts had completed counting, with 49 districts declared. Although the number of declared districts is still too low to provide a meaningful indication of the overall results, the Democratic Alliance has shown early gains in several municipalities across the province. Progress in vote counting was already being made in about 15 of the province’s 30 municipalities. The provincial IEC says the provisional results are expected on Friday.
