The National Democratic Congress (NDC) says it is prepared to investigate allegations of vote-buying in its ongoing constituency elections if credible evidence is brought before the party’s national executives. The party’s Deputy Director of Elections, Rashid Tanko-Computer, said the NDC would not condone conduct that compromises the integrity of its internal electoral processes. He cited the party’s response to a previous incident involving Ayawaso as an indication that it was willing to act when concerns about electoral conduct were brought to its attention. Mr Tanko-Computer, however, said the party had not recorded any incidents of vote-buying in the constituencies where voting had taken place, describing the elections overall as largely peaceful and successful. He acknowledged that the exercise had encountered difficulties in some areas, including Odododiodioo, where counting was suspended following violence but resumed after party officials intervened. He also disclosed that voting in some constituencies in the Ashanti and Eastern regions had been postponed until the following day to allow outstanding issues to be resolved. Speaking on Channel One TV, Mr Tanko-Computer said: “If somebody has any evidence of that and it’s brought to the notice of the national executives, why not? We’ll take notice of it.”
