NSFAS receives record one million applications for 2027 funding cycle

The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) has received more than one million applications for the 2027 funding cycle, the highest number recorded to date. The figure surpasses the more than 800 000 applications received for the 2026 academic year. The institution says the number of applications indicates increasing demand for tertiary education. Applications will officially close on the 31st of this month. NSFAS spokesperson Ishmael Mnisi has urged applicants to carefully review the requirements applicable to their circumstances and ensure that all necessary documents are submitted as prescribed. “As part of our commitment to ensure that eligible students have access to financial assistance, the NSFAS Board will participate in the Final Push Outreach Programme in support of the 2027 applications period.
