Parly Committee chair notes arrest of former IDAC, CI heads

The Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Justice, Xola Nqola, says he has noted the arrest of the former Independent Directorate Against Corruption (IDAC) head and former Crime Intelligence boss on charges of defeating the ends of justice. The two were arrested earlier on Friday morning. Nqola says the committee has consistently maintained that no individual, regardless of their position or office within the security and justice cluster, is above the law. Their names were both mentioned in the Ad Hoc Committee and the Madlanga Commission, and one of them has testified before the Ad Hoc Committee. “The committee maintains a firm stance on the supremacy of the rule of law, institutional integrity, and accountability at all levels of the criminal justice system. The committee has consistently maintained that no individual, regardless of their position or former office within the security cluster, is above the law. Accountability and public trust are the foundational pillars of our constitutional democracy. Let justice be done though the heavens may fall,” adds Nqola.
