NAIROBI, Kenya, Oct 27 — The Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB) has stepped up compliance monitoring of broadcasters, streaming platforms and gaming operators during the October-December school holiday, warning against children’s exposure to age-inappropriate audiovisual content. The Board is urging content distributors, exhibitors and operators of video halls and PlayStation gaming outlets to comply with licensing and classification requirements as learners spend nearly two months away from school. In a consumer advisory, KFCB Acting Chief Executive Officer Nelly Muluka said the extended school break could increase children’s screen time and exposure to inappropriate material on television, streaming services, social media and online gaming platforms. The Board called on parents, guardians and caregivers to actively supervise children’s media consumption, activate parental controls, set screen-time limits and ensure they access content suitable for their age. “Child protection does not stop when schools close for the holidays,” the advisory stated, urging parents to engage children in conversations about the content they watch, listen to and encounter online. KFCB also encouraged families to promote educational and family-friendly programming while keeping children engaged in constructive holiday activities. Beyond online exposure, the Board warned parents to remain vigilant about children’s whereabouts, peer interactions and environments, citing the risk of exposure to substance abuse and other harmful influences. The agency said it was collaborating with other government institutions to intensify monitoring both online and offline, including at audiovisual premises where children could be exposed to adult content or illegal filming. KFCB reminded audiovisual content providers of their responsibility to observe licensing and classification rules, particularly in establishments accessible to children. Members of the public have been urged to report inappropriate audiovisual content to the Board through info@kfcb.go.ke or its social media platforms for appropriate actio
