Change Party leader Lesiba Molokomme has attributed the decay of major city infrastructures to what he calls a “failing tender system”. Speaking to the SABC in Johannesburg, Molokomme relayed his party’s main priorities for the city, focusing on turning around failing municipalities ahead of the local government elections . Molokomme says doing away with the tender system is the first step in returning stability to the metros. “All right, first of all I think the city of Johannesburg and all other cities in South Africa, are now in a ruined state and one can associate that to this issue of tenders. Tenders, the tender processes and the tender system has collapsed and that is in this way, first taking away the jobs. For example, here is one guy getting a tender of millions of rands, he employs two or three people, he does not even complete the work, whereas if we could have used the expertise that is within the municipalities, get them control and oversee, supervise the work, we could be able to employ a lot of young people, a lot of people into this country. That’s point number one. If we can do away with the tenders, that will be the best for South Africa, the best for the city of Johannesburg.” LGE 2026 | Smaller parties prepare for elections
