Former Vlakplaas commander Eugene de Kock has blamed the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) for the failure to prosecute Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) cases . He says that although he made it clear that he was willing to provide information on crimes committed by the security branch, no one from the NPA ever asked him to do so. De Kock is testifying on day 99 of the TRC Cases Inquiry taking place in Newtown, Johannesburg. He was arrested in 1994 for the extra-judicial killings, bombings and kidnappings that took place on the security branch farm outside Pretoria, received two life terms and an imprisonment term of over two hundred years. He was subsequently granted amnesty for various crimes and released in 2015. Geoff Budlender SC is leading De Kock’s evidence. Budlender SC: “Were you able to give the NPA information and evidence that are relevant to the murder of the Cradock 4?” De Kock: “Yes.” Budlender SC: “Were you willing to give that evidence” De Kock: “Yes.” Budlender SC: “Were you asked to give that evidence?” De Kock: “No.” Budlender SC: “Were you able to give the NPA evidence and information that was relevant to the murder of Sweet Sambu, absolutely everything were you willing to give the NPA that information and evidence.” De Kock: “I was never approached, never asked, no statements taken.” Budlender SC: “If you had been approached, would you have been willing to give it?” De Kock: “Yes, immediately the same as the case in the Motherwell bomb was the same.” Live stream:
