Luv FM journalist, Emmanuel Bright Quaicoe, has been crowned the 2025 Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) Ashanti Regional Journalist of the Year, the highest individual honour at the regional media excellence awards. His award was announced at the GJA Ashanti Media Excellence Awards, which recognises outstanding journalistic work across the region. Mr Quaicoe secured three additional honours on the night, winning Best Feature Production, Best in Agriculture reporting and placing second in Best Entertainment Journalism. The three awards recognise his work across different areas of journalism, including feature production and entertainment reporting. His story titled “Broken Chain: Delayed rains, poor sales discouraging Ejura maize farmers from planting next season” won the agriculture category while a story he published on “Illicit flows bleed Ghana dry: How billions lost are crippling science education and local research” won the Best Feature Production category. A story acknowledging the unique hairstyle of Asantehemaa’s maidens, “Braids of Loyalty: Asantehemaa’s maidens honour her legacy with unique hairstyle,” secured second in the Entertainment category. The 2025 Ashanti GJA Media Excellence Awards was held under the theme, “Celebrating Excellence, Championing Credibility: Journalism in the Age of AI,” which highlights the importance of professional standards, credibility, and ethical reporting amid the growing influence of artificial intelligence in news production and distribution. The Journalist of the Year title places Mr Quaicoe among the region’s recognised media practitioners, while his category awards acknowledge his work in specific areas of reporting. He works with Luv FM, a Kumasi-based station under the Multimedia Group Limited. The GJA Ashanti Regional Media Excellence Awards celebrate journalistic contributions to public information and coverage of issues affecting communities across the region. Mr Quaicoe’s performance at the regional awards could also place him in contention for national recognition, depending on the arrangements for the GJA National Awards.
