Johannesburg is bracing for increased traffic and security measures, as two major events take place in Soweto on Saturday. The sold-out derby between Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs at FNB stadium, will coincide with the EFF Tshela Thupa rally at the Orlando stadium. The Gauteng Provincial government, in collaboration with SAPS and Metropolitan Police Department, will deploy additional law enforcement personnel, drones and mobile command centres to monitor crowd movement, manage traffic and respond to security threats. Several road closures and restrictions will also be implemented around both venues. Motorists have been urged to avoid affected precincts, use alternative routes and allow for extra travel time. Supporters and rally attendees are encouraged to use public transport where possible and follow instructions from law enforcement officials. “The whole provincial government has mobilised reinforcement personnel, operational resources and technology-driven policing capabilities to strengthen safety and security ahead of the switch that is taking place tomorrow. Our law enforcement agencies will intensify coordinated policing operations to ensure a safe and secure environment for supporters, motorists and members of the public. It is very crucial that we maintain public order, manage traffic movement, detect criminal activities and respond to emerging security threats.” says Ofentse Morwane, Gauteng Department of Community Safety Spokesperson.
