Democratic Alliance (DA) Federal Leader Geordin Hill-Lewis has urged voters in Nelson Mandela Bay (NMB) to support the party, saying it has a track record of creating jobs. He was addressing a DA rally in Gqeberha in the Eastern Cape as the party campaigns for control of the metro. The DA is currently an opposition in the Nelson Mandela Bay, holding 48 of the 120 council seats. Hill-Lewis addressed a crowd of DA supporters in George Botha Hall in KwaNoxolo, where he urged them to come out in numbers on November 4. “Everywhere where the DA governs jobs come to that town or city. You know in the city that I’m privileged to government we created the number of jobs as all the other cities combined in South Africa, one DA government creating half the new jobs in the country’s cities.” Meanwhile, some residents in the area say they are hoping to see improvement, especially in job creation and access to education. “We don’t have jobs, the DA must create access to jobs and we must have access to jobs for us as youth and we must have access to NSFAS and access to go to schools. I’m 21 and nothing has changed, we are hoping for a change, we are hoping for jobs. I’ve been out of school since 2023; I haven’t found a job; I have nothing to do.”
