November the 1st, 2026 – Daytime lights being on is now mandatory on all roads in Croatia, with a fine of 30 euros being prescribed to those who fail to comply. As of today (November the 1st), the national obligation to use daytime or dipped headlights while driving during the day comes into force for drivers using roads across Croatia. Index reports that this rule will now remain fully in force until the 31st of March 2027. Drivers who fail to comply face the aforementioned fine of 30 euros. the law applies to all motor vehicles This is an obligation prescribed by Article 102 of the Road Traffic Safety Act, which the Police Directorate also reminded of ahead of the holiday weekend. Although many newer cars have automatic daytime running lights, drivers of older models will have to make sure to switch them on. According to the law, daytime or dipped headlights must be switched on on motor vehicles while driving during the day, regardless of weather conditions and visibility. For motorcycle and moped drivers the rule is somewhat different – they are obliged to use dipped headlights throughout the year, and a fine of 30 euros is also prescribed for non-compliance. cyclists and e-scooter owners The police also state that there are obligations for cyclists and drivers of personal means of transport, which include electric scooters. From the first dusk until full dawn, as well as during the day in the case of reduced visibility, they must have a white light switched on at the front and a red light at the rear. The fine for non-compliance with this rule amounts to 60 euros. caution with automatic daytime running lights Owners and drivers of cars with automatic light switching should check how the system works on their vehicle. On some models daytime running lights illuminate only the front of the car, while the rear ones remain off. This can be dangerous in conditions of reduced visibility, such as fog or heavier rain. Daytime running lights serve for better visibility of the vehicle, but are not a substitute for dipped headlights which are necessary at night and in conditions of poorer visibility. winter equipment on vehicles will also soon become mandatory The beginning of November brings another change for drivers, which comes into force a little later. From the 15th of November to the 15th of April, the use of winter equipment will also become mandatory on certain sections of public roads across Croatia, regardless of the weather conditions. In the case of winter conditions, when the road is covered with snow or ice, winter equipment is mandatory on all roads nationwide. It’s important not to equate this obligation with the one on the use of lights, which begins two weeks earlier. The Police Directorate calls on drivers to respect traffic regulations and take care of safety. “Comply with traffic regulations and make sure your lights are always on for better visibility, and especially from the 1st of November to the 31st of March,” the police concluded.
