As the National Democratic Congress (NDC) prepares for its upcoming Western Regional elections, George Dadzie Junior is being presented as a strong candidate to succeed Joseph Nelson as the party’s Regional Secretary following his exit from the position to serve as Western Regional Minister. For some party delegates and supporters, the next Regional Secretary must be more than an administrator. They say the position requires a unifying figure who understands collective leadership, organisational discipline and inclusive party development. Against this background, George Dadzie Junior’s candidature is being promoted as an opportunity to build a stronger, more coordinated and electorally competitive NDC in the Western Region. According to Emmanuel Yirenkyi, an ardent party member, the demands of the office require someone capable of bringing different interests together while strengthening the party’s structures at all levels. “The task ahead requires a bridge-builder, an organiser, a communicator and a committed party man. George Dadzie Junior is presenting himself as that candidate, with a vision to serve the party, strengthen its structures and work with every stakeholder towards a common political objective: a stronger NDC and sustained electoral success in the Western Region,” he said in an interview. Mr Yirenkyi said delegates were increasingly considering Mr Dadzie as a credible candidate, citing his experience, charisma, dedication and commitment to the party’s development. He identified six key areas underpinning the candidate’s proposed leadership agenda: unity and internal cohesion; experience and institutional knowledge; hard work and accessibility; youth empowerment and capacity development; women’s empowerment and inclusive leadership; and strategic communication, grassroots mobilisation and electoral success. Unity and internal cohesion Mr Yirenkyi said one of the most important qualities required of the next Regional Secretary was the ability to unite party members across constituencies, branches and competing political interests. He argued that the NDC’s strength depended on its collective identity and shared commitment to the party’s ideals, adding that internal divisions could undermine its electoral fortunes. According to him, Mr Dadzie’s leadership vision places unity above personal interests and seeks to build bridges between competing factions, reconcile differences and create an environment in which every member feels valued and respected. “For him, the NDC must remain one formidable political family, where cooperation and mutual respect take precedence over factional considerations,” he said. Experience and institutional knowledge Mr Yirenkyi also identified experience and an understanding of the party’s organisational structures as essential requirements for the position. He noted that the office of Regional Secretary involved significant administrative and political responsibilities, including internal coordination, political mobilisation and the effective management of the regional secretariat. He said Mr Dadzie’s involvement in party activities had given him an understanding of the NDC’s organisational dynamics, providing a foundation for coordination, strategic decision-making and the implementation of policies to strengthen the party. “Delegates require a secretary who will not spend valuable time learning the responsibilities of the office but will demonstrate readiness to deliver from the beginning,” he stressed. Hard work, commitment and accessibility On the demands of the position, Mr Yirenkyi said the Regional Secretary’s role went beyond ceremonial responsibilities and required availability, sacrifice and a willingness to work beyond conventional office hours. He described Mr Dadzie’s political appeal as being associated with hard work, dedication and active participation in party activities. He argued that the next Regional Secretary must maintain close contact with constituency executives, branch officers, grassroots organisers, electoral area coordinators and ordinary party members. According to him, Mr Dadzie’s proposed approach is to establish an active regional secretariat that responds promptly to members’ concerns and provides the administrative and organisational support needed by party structures. He added that effective leadership required practical engagement with members rather than distant administration. Youth empowerment and capacity development Mr Yirenkyi said the future strength of the NDC in the Western Region would depend partly on its ability to empower young people and prepare them for greater responsibilities within the party. He argued that young people should not be mobilised only during election campaigns but should also be given meaningful opportunities to participate in decision-making, leadership development and party administration. He said Mr Dadzie’s vision included promoting skills development, mentorship, political education and opportunities for emerging young leaders. “By investing in the next generation of political leaders, he believes the party can build a sustainable organisational structure capable of responding to changing political realities and securing the confidence of younger voters,” he said. Women’s empowerment and inclusive leadership The NDC stalwart also highlighted the importance of women’s participation in the party’s leadership and organisational activities. He described women as an indispensable part of the party’s political strength, citing their contributions to grassroots mobilisation, campaign organisation, community engagement and electoral success. He said Mr Dadzie’s leadership agenda recognised the need to create more opportunities for women to occupy leadership positions and contribute meaningfully to party decision-making. According to him, the candidate envisages an inclusive political environment in which women, young people, experienced party stalwarts and grassroots members have opportunities to contribute to the party’s development. “An effective Regional Secretary must be a unifying administrator who gives every segment of the party a sense of belonging,” he said. Strategic communication, grassroots mobilisation and electoral success Mr Yirenkyi said the effectiveness of a Regional Secretary should ultimately be measured by the strength of the party’s organisation and its ability to translate political support into electoral victories. He noted that effective communication, grassroots mobilisation, information management and continuous engagement with constituency and branch executives were critical to achieving that objective. He said Mr Dadzie’s vision included strengthening communication between the regional secretariat and constituency structures to ensure that information flowed efficiently and party members remained informed, motivated and politically active. He further highlighted strategic planning, delegate engagement and continuous political education as important tools for sustaining the NDC’s electoral strength in the Western Region. As the party approaches the regional elections, Mr Yirenkyi believes these six thematic areas provide a compelling basis for Mr Dadzie’s candidature. He maintains that a Regional Secretary who combines organisational experience with accessibility, inclusiveness and strategic communication would be well positioned to strengthen internal cohesion and prepare the party for future electoral contests.
