The South African government says it recognises the concerns that the United States of America’s decision to terminate the country’s access to its American market under the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) trade preference program may cause. The US said on Monday it intends to suspend SA and Rwanda from duty-free access to the AGOA. Trade, Industry and Competition Minister Parks Tau says government will continue to accelerate the diversification of its export markets to protect jobs. Tau says SA is pursuing opportunities across the African continent, India, the European Union (EU) and China, amongst others. New markets have also been secured for SA fruit exporters. Tau says while AGOA remains important, most SA exports to the US already enter under standard World Trade Organisation (WTO) trade terms. RELATED VIDEO | US moves to terminate SA, Rwanda from AGOA:
