ActionSA leader and Johannesburg mayoral candidate Herman Mashaba has pledged to establish a specialised unit within the Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD), working closely with the South African Police Service (SAPS), the Department of Home Affairs and the Department of Employment and Labour, to tackle illegal immigration. Mashaba was speaking at the party’s final election campaign rally in Hillbrow, Johannesburg, on Friday. He was joined by Tshwane mayoral candidate Dr Nasiphi Moya and Ekurhuleni mayoral candidate Xolani Khumalo, who signed their delivery contracts, committing themselves to achieving tangible results for residents. Mashaba told supporters that illegal immigration was placing pressure on the city’s resources and the rule of law. “Johannesburg is crumbling under the pressure of illegal immigrants who abuse our state resources and undermine our rule of law. I want to say this without mincing my words, if you are an illegal immigrant in the City of Johannesburg, please run before Herman Mashaba comes.” Video: ActionSA final push ahead of LGE 2026
